How to Configure Test with Section Switch Feature?

Published:

Overview

The Section Switch feature gives you the flexibility to choose the order in which you attempt different sections of your test. Instead of following a fixed section sequence, you can start with any section you feel most confident in — helping reduce anxiety and improve your performance.

When you begin your test, you’ll see a list of all available sections.
Each section will have one of the following buttons:

  • Start – This appears when you haven’t begun the test yet. Click Start to begin your assessment.

  • Resume – If you've started but exited the test, you'll see Resume to continue from where you left off.

Understanding Section Status Tags

Each section of the test displays a tag that shows its current status. These tags help you track your progress clearly during the test:

Not Yet Started (gray tag) appears for all sections by default when you first access the test. It means you haven’t opened or attempted any section yet. You can click Start to begin.

During the Test

After starting, your test interface will display:

  • A Test Timer

  • A real-time view of time leftand questions remaining in each section

  • A Save and Switch Section button.

When you click Save and Switch Section, a confirmation pop-up will appear showing a summary of the current section, including the number of unanswered questions. This gives you a quick overview before moving on.
Click Yes, Switch Section to proceed to another section of your choice.

Once you switch section, you will see a screen displaying all available sections along with key details. This includes the section name, section type, estimated time, and progress status—showing how many questions have been solved or marked for review. You’ll also see an action button next to each section to either Start or Resume the test, depending on your progress.

  • In Progress (yellow tag):
You’ve started this section, but haven’t completed all questions. You can Resume this section if you’ve exited the test.

  • Completed (green tag):
You’ve completed and submitted this section. The tag shows all questions have been answered. You can revisit the section if needed.

  • Not Yet Started (gray tag):
This means you haven’t started this section yet. You’ll see a Start button next to it.

How Section Switch is Enabled

This feature is configured by the recruiter or test creator before your test is scheduled.

  • If enabled, you’ll be informed through section instructions and on your landing page.

  • If disabled, the test will follow a fixed section order, and switching will not be allowed.

Notes for Candidates

  • 5-minute buffer is automatically added to your total test time when Section Switch is enabled.

  • Once you click Start Section the timer begins for that section.

  • Look for instructions on your test landing page to confirm whether Section Switch is available in your test.
