Blueprint Review and Publish Workflow for Career Path Recommendations

Published:

What is the Career Path Blueprint?

In iMocha’s Skills Management Platform, Career Path Recommendations are personalized career progression suggestions generated automatically based on a Skills Match Logic linked to job profiles. Traditionally, when employees are enrolled in a job profile, these recommendations are immediately visible to them.

The Career Path Blueprint workflow introduces an additional review layer for power users — such as L&D Admins and HR Business Partners (HRBPs) — enabling them to generate, review, and publish career path recommendations in a controlled manner. This means recommendations can be previewed as drafts (blueprints) before being finalized and shared with employees.

How to Use the Blueprint Review and Publish Workflow

Step 1: Job Profile Creation (Example)

  • Navigate to the Job Profile creation section for the desired job profile within the talent management portal.
  • Generate job description.

Step 2: Automatic Career Path Generation

  • Once the job profile is created, the system’s Skills Match Logic automatically generates the career path recommendations for this profile.
For example, to view the career path for Network Certifications, click the Career Paths option located next to the job profile.

Career paths include:

Horizontal Path
Lateral growth opportunities within the same domain or role family.

When you click the View Details option, you’ll see the skills associated with the current job profile, as well as the next job profile in the horizontal path, including the required skill goals for progression.

It is automatically generated using the Skills Match algorithm to compare and align similar job profiles.

  • The system looks at the skills mapped to the current job profile and finds other profiles in your account that have similar skill requirements.
  • Important: Horizontal Path recommendations will  be generated if your account has multiple job profiles configured, as the system needs comparable profiles for the matching.

Vertical Path
Promotions or direct progressions to more senior roles.

Vertical path is defined during job profile creation by selecting the next job profile that an employee can progress to in the same role family or domain.

Diagonal Path

Transition to different but related roles that combine horizontal and vertical movement.

The Diagonal Path suggests cross-functional growth opportunities that blend horizontal moves with an increase in grade or role complexity (e.g., moving to a slightly different but more senior role).

  • It combines the Skills Match algorithm and Grade Level logic to identify potential transitions to related roles at a different grade level.
  • Like the Horizontal Path, the Diagonal Path requires your account to have multiple job profiles for the system to identify suitable transitions.

You can generate a draft or blueprint of Career Path Recommendations without enrolling employees. This ensures that the recommendations can be reviewed and refined before being shared with employees.

Step 3: Review Draft Career Path Recommendations

  • Once the draft career path recommendations are generated, power users (e.g., L&D Admins or HRBPs) can review them to ensure they align with organizational goals and employee development plans. Career path is not visible to the employees instantly.
  • Employees will only see curated, and relevant career path recommendations.

Step 4: Publish the Finalized Career Path Recommendations

  • After reviewing the draft career paths, publish the finalized recommendations to make them visible to employees.
You can do this directly from within the Career Path Details section.
  • Publishing is a manual, deliberate step, ensuring only accurate and relevant career paths are shared.
  • Once published, these career path recommendations will be available to employees in their profiles, guiding their career development journey.
