Skills Inference through Certificates
Certificate Inference – Automatically Enrich Employee Skill Profiles
iMocha's Certificate Inference is a powerful backend capability that extracts validated skills from employee certificates—either uploaded in bulk by Talent Managers or manually by employees. These inferred skills are automatically added to employee skill profiles and reflected in Talent Analytics, giving L&D managers a complete, data-backed view of workforce capabilities.
What problem does it solve?
Employee skill profiles are often incomplete due to low certificate uploads and heavy reliance on self-disclosures. Talent teams spend excessive time chasing employees for resume or certificate data, reducing the platform’s value and limiting the effectiveness of analytics and recommendations.
Certificate inference:
Eliminates manual effort to update profiles.
Accelerates onboarding with enriched profiles.
Improves data quality and L&D outcomes.
For Employee:
To upload a certificate manually,
Login to the Talent Portal and click My Certificates.
Click Add Certificate to add new certificates to your skill profile.
The following window appears:
Enter the Certificate Title, Certificate Type and other mandatory details.
Select the certification organization from the drop-down list.
Note: If the issuing organization is not listed, select Other.
Enter the certificate number and its validity if applicable.
Select the skill for which you got the certification, if needed.
Click the Upload here button to upload the certificate in pdf, jpg, jpeg, or png format.
Click Save.
Your certificate has been saved successfully.
Note: A preview of the certificate will be visible if a supported format has been uploaded.
For Managers:
Managers can upload employee certificates in bulk directly through the backend utility in iMocha’s Talent Management platform. This streamlined process allows them to validate and enrich employee profiles quickly, ensuring accurate and up-to-date skill data that feeds into analytics and learning recommendations
Once a certificate is uploaded, iMocha’s AI automatically infers the associated skills and updates the employee’s skill profile. Based on the identified skill gaps, personalized learning recommendations are generated—empowering employees to upskill with precision.
This feature is built in response to clear trends:
Only 25% of employees upload certificates without being reminded.
Talent teams report high manual effort during onboarding.
HR already holds certificates during enrolment, but they remain unused.
Incomplete profiles lead to low employee engagement.
Richer skill data improves recommendations and upskilling journeys.
Certificate Inference is considered successful when the system automatically extracts and maps relevant skills from uploaded certificates—either through backend or manually uploaded by employees. These inferred skills are added to the employee’s profile. This not only reduces the manual effort required by talent teams but also ensures that L&D managers can leverage enriched data through analytics filters to make more informed decisions about learning paths, upskilling needs, and workforce planning.
